Children
Therapy can provide children with developmentally appropriate support for emotional, behavioral, social, and family concerns. Treatment may also involve parents or caregivers when appropriate to help support progress outside of sessions.
Cogniscribe provides individualized psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Our clinicians work collaboratively with each client to understand what is bringing them to therapy, identify meaningful goals, and develop an approach that fits their needs, values, and circumstances.
Therapy is available in person in the Sacramento area and through telehealth throughout California.

People come to therapy for many reasons. Some are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, attention, or major life changes. Others may function well in many areas of life but feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how they want to move forward.
Our approach to therapy is integrative. Rather than applying the same technique to every person, treatment is informed by the individual, their goals, the concerns bringing them to therapy, and the clinical approaches most appropriate for their needs.

Therapy can provide children with developmentally appropriate support for emotional, behavioral, social, and family concerns. Treatment may also involve parents or caregivers when appropriate to help support progress outside of sessions.
We work with adolescents navigating emotional difficulties, relationships, identity, school demands, family concerns, life transitions, and other challenges that can emerge during this stage of development.
Adult therapy may address anxiety, depression, relationships, stress, neurodivergence, life transitions, identity, meaning and purpose, or longstanding patterns that have become difficult to change independently.
Couples and family therapy can help identify patterns of communication and interaction that contribute to conflict or disconnection. Treatment focuses on developing greater understanding, improving communication, and working toward healthier and more effective relationships.

ACT helps individuals develop greater psychological flexibility—the ability to experience difficult thoughts and emotions without allowing them to dictate every decision. Therapy emphasizes identifying personal values, changing one's relationship with difficult internal experiences, and taking meaningful action toward the life one wants to build.

CBT examines relationships among thoughts, emotions, and behavior and helps individuals identify and change patterns that contribute to distress or interfere with functioning. CBT strategies may be incorporated when appropriate to the client's concerns and treatment goals.
Other therapeutic approaches may be incorporated depending on the clinician and the needs of the individual, couple, or family.
Humanistic and existential approaches focus on the whole person rather than viewing someone primarily through the lens of symptoms or diagnosis. Therapy emphasizes self-understanding, authenticity, personal responsibility, relationships, and the individual’s capacity for growth and meaningful change.
This approach can also provide space to explore deeper questions involving identity, meaning and purpose, freedom and choice, uncertainty, isolation, mortality, and the direction of one’s life. Rather than focusing solely on reducing symptoms, humanistic and existential therapy can help individuals better understand themselves, clarify what matters to them, and develop a more intentional and meaningful way of living.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is an evidence-based form of cognitive behavioral therapy commonly used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related concerns. ERP involves gradually and intentionally facing situations, thoughts, sensations, or uncertainties that trigger distress while reducing the compulsive behaviors or rituals typically used to obtain relief.
Through repeated practice, individuals can develop a greater ability to tolerate anxiety and uncertainty without relying on compulsions. Treatment is collaborative and individualized, with exposures developed at an appropriate pace based on each person’s symptoms, goals, and readiness.

The relationship between therapist and client is an important part of successful psychotherapy. Cogniscribe includes clinicians with different areas of interest, populations, and therapeutic styles.
Our Meet the Team page allows prospective clients to learn more about each clinician’s background, specialties, populations served, and approach to therapy.

Cogniscribe participates with several major insurance networks, including Aetna, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross, Sutter, and other plans.
Insurance coverage varies by plan, clinician, and service. Our office can help verify your behavioral health benefits before treatment begins.

In-person appointments are available at our Sacramento-area office. Telehealth therapy is also available throughout California, allowing clients to work with a Cogniscribe clinician from home when clinically appropriate.
