Can Someone Have Both Autism and ADHD?

Autism and ADHD can occur together, and recognizing both may provide a more complete explanation of a person’s experiences.

A person can meet criteria for both autism and ADHD. In fact, the combination can create experiences that seem contradictory, such as wanting predictable routines while also struggling to maintain them, or having deep focus in some areas alongside difficulty directing attention elsewhere.

An integrated evaluation can identify overlapping and distinct needs so recommendations address the whole person rather than treating each concern in isolation.
